So, I am heading off to Israel. The land promised to Moses by God when he appeared as a burning bush as described in Exodus 3. I remember as a child this image confusing me. How did a bush burn and not burn out? And, wasn't God supposed to be awesome and therefore look impressive. I didn't think an isolated burning bush was an attractive image at all.
The promised land, a land flowing with mik and honey steeped in wonder and history is an alluring prospect. Equally compelling for me is the idea of a land ridden with religious strife, ingrained intolerance;a crucible of conflict.
Hopefully my trip will add some substance to my ideas as yet drawn only from an secondary sources ranging from the Pentateuch to the daily papers.
